How and why the poppy system works
Share
Art doesn’t need to dictate the space.
It can sit with you - shifting gently as your room, mood and attention changes.
poppy grew from the idea that a painting might remain 'open'.
Each work is built from small hand-painted panels that come together to form a composition of colour and surface. Because the panels remain movable, the composition is never completely fixed. It can shift slightly, expand over time, or settle into something new.
Interaction is not the point as novelty, but as something familiar: arranging by hand, trusting your eye, noticing when something feels balanced.
How the poppy system works
1. Begin with a base
A composition begins with either a wall frame or a poppy box.
Wall frames create compositions that sit quietly on the wall, while boxes allow the work to exist as a small sculptural object within a space. Both are made from timber and steel, designed to assemble easily and support the magnetic panels that form the composition.
1. Choose your base
Select a wall-mounted framed steel base or a timber poppy box designed for shelves, tables or ledges.
Each base is thoughtfully made from timber and steel, flat-packable and easy to assemble - no tools, no mess. The box itself becomes part of the artwork, doubling as display, storage or a sculptural object in your space. Optional rotating bases add a gentle sense of movement.
2. Choose your panels
Each panel begins as a small painting.
They are hand-painted, magnetised and released in small batches. Panels can be chosen by palette, theme or instinct — warm, cool, muted or bold — and different collections can sit together naturally.
New panels appear over time, allowing compositions to grow gradually.
3. Arrange the composition
Panels can be placed, rotated and rearranged until something settles.
Some people keep the original arrangement, while others shift things slowly over time. The magnets hold the panels securely, allowing the composition to remain stable while still open to change.
4. Let the work evolve
poppy compositions are designed to evolve.
New panels, regular releases and one-off works allow a composition to expand gently over time. Rather than replacing an artwork, the piece can continue changing as a space changes.
Your walls don’t need to stay the same.
With poppy, they’re allowed to change their mind.
